TCU women surrender big third-quarter lead, fall at West Virginia
The TCU women squandered a 13-point third-quarter lead and lost to West Virginia 83-72 on Wednesday night.
Two 9-0 scoring runs by the Mountaineers in the final 13 minutes ended a three-game Big 12 winning streak for the Horned Frogs (15-12, 7-9 Big 12).
Zahna Medley led TCU with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting and drew within 17 points of tying Sandora Irvin’s TCU career scoring mark.
Fellow senior Veja Hamilton had 13 points and seven rebounds and became the sixth TCU player ever to have 900 points and 500 rebounds in a career.
TCU shot well, hitting 50.8 percent, but were drubbed on rebounds 40-25. WVU shot 49.2 percent from the field. The Mountaineers had decisive edges of 14-5 in free throws made, 12-2 in second-chance points and 10-2 in fast-break points.
Trailing 35-33 at halftime, TCU used a 19-4 run to lead 64-51 with 3:20 left in the third quarter.
Bria Holmes hit a 3-pointer with 4:38 to go to give WVU (21-8, 10-6) the lead for good.
