TCU women end skid, win at Iowa State 72-62
Senior Zahna Medley had 22 points and Jada Butts had a season-high 19 points to lead TCU to a 72-62 victory Wednesday night over Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum.
The Horned Frogs, who had lost three straight and five of six, rallied to lead 38-28 at halftime after a 17-2 run to close the first half.
TCU (12-8, 4-5 Big 12) won on the road for the second time in league play, matching their best mark in four years in the Big 12.
The Frogs trailed 26-21 in the first half after Emily Durr’s 3-pointer with 4:51 to go. But the TCU defense forced the Cyclones (11-8, 3-5) to miss nine of their last 10 shots in the half.
Junior Carol Willie ignited the run with a three-point play and Medley hit a bucket and consecutive free throws to give TCU its first lead at 28-26.
Iowa State got as close at six (65-59) with 3:07 left before AJ Alix and Willie answered with consecutive baskets.
TCU held the Cyclones to just 30.8 percent shooting.
“It is always special when you can come into Hilton Coliseum and get a win,” TCU coach Raegan Pebley said.
