For TCU women, 61-58 holds positive significance against No. 6 Baylor

The score that has become a rallying cry for Baylor fans since Bears beat TCU on the football field in a top-10 ranked matchup at McLane Stadium on Oct. 12, 2014.

However, in women’s basketball, the opposite rings true for the Horned Frogs.

TCU women’s basketball team beat Baylor in Waco for the first time on Feb. 4, 1987.

The score on the scoreboard when the clock hit 0:00 — 61-58.

Twenty-eight years later, both teams statistically resemble their football counterparts.

Saturday, the Big 12’s top two scoring offenses face off in Waco, with Baylor (15-1, 2-1 in Big 12) leading the way averaging 80.4 points per game. TCU (10-4, 2-1 in Big 12) comes in just behind at a 76.9 average per game.

However, sitting as the No. 6 team in the nation in the AP Top 25, Baylor holds the top spot in 14 of the Big 12’s statistical categories, including scoring margin (+29.1), field goal percentage (50.3), 3-point field goal percentage defense (25.4), assists per game (23.8), steals per game (10.1), assist to turnover ration (1.5) and offensive rebounds per game (15.7).

Opposite Baylor’s league-leading defense against the 3-pointer is TCU’s 42.1 3-point field goal percentage, which also tops the Big 12.

Baylor enters the first meeting of the two program’s this season riding an 18-game winning streak against TCU.

Since the 1987 win, the Frogs only have one other win in Waco — Jan. 27, 1990.

The last time the Horned Frogs knocked off the Lady Bears was Feb. 28, 1990, in Fort Worth.
