TCU men squander double-digit lead, hold off Bradley at the end
Chauncey Collins came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down a career-high eight boards as TCU claimed a 53-49 victory over Bradley on Wednesday at the Peoria Civic Center.
Collins was joined in doubles figures by Michael Williams with a season-high 10 points, and Vladimir Brodziansky with 10 points for TCU (7-4), which has won 25 of its past 29 nonconference games.
The Frogs are now 6-28 in road games since joining the Big 12 Conference in 2012.
Luuk van Bree, a 6-foot-8 freshman from the Netherlands, led the Braves (2-11) with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Ronnie Suggs added 12 points.
TCU led by as many as 11, and the Frogs’ bench outscored Bradley 23-12.
Five Bradley players – including four starters – fouled out in a game that saw the Braves called for 37 fouls. Bradley also committed 23 turnovers, which led to 19 TCU points. The Horned Frogs turned it over 14 times. The Braves shot 23.8 percent from 3-point range.
Brodziansky got TCU going early in the second half, scoring the first five, but Bradley cut the lead to 35-30 with 14 minutes to play. However, TCU held the Braves without a field goal for more than 7 minutes and extended the lead to 10.
Bradley made a late push, cutting it to 43-37, but Brodziansky delivered with two free throws for an eight point lead with 3:50 left.
The Braves outshot TCU 36 percent to 30 percent and pulled to within three points with 10 seconds left, but the Frogs were able to make enough free throws to hold on.
TCU will close out nonconference play at home on Monday against Delaware State.
