The TCU men’s basketball team will try to wrap up a perfect nonconference season Monday when it takes on Tennessee State at the University Recreation Center.

The Horned Frogs (12-0) have posted their best start since the 1997-98 season when they opened at 9-0 and finished with their last trip to the NCAA Tournament. TCU, No. 25 in The Associated Press rankings, is one of only seven teams in the NCAA that remain undefeated.

TCU, which hasn’t played since defeating Grambling State 80-39 on Dec. 22, would tie the 2001-02 Oklahoma State team for the 10th best start in Big 12 history with a victory Monday.

Tennessee State (2-11) has lost 10 consecutive games, including a 67-46 defeat at Tennessee on Saturday.

Senior guard Jay Harris averages 11.4 points and 2.8 assists to lead the Tigers. Junior guard Marcus Roper also averages 11.4 points.

Frogs senior guard and North Crowley product Kyan Anderson averages 13.2 points and 4.4 assists to fuel a balanced attack. Seven players are averaging at least seven points a game for TCU.

TCU ranks in the top 20 in the NCAA in blocks per game (eighth), field-goal percentage defense (sixth), rebounding margin (11th), scoring defense (seventh) and blocks (sixth).

TCU is 5-3 in nonconference finales over the past eight seasons.
