TCU appears headed to Alamo Bowl in San Antonio
TCU appears headed to the Valero Alamo Bowl on Jan. 2 in San Antonio, possibly against Oregon, as the Big 12 regular season finished Saturday with Baylor failing to force a three-way tie for second place.
Big 12 champion Oklahoma (11-1, 8-1) appears set for a Dec. 31 national semifinals berth, possibly at the Cotton Bowl in Arlington. The College Football Playoff Selection Committee announces the four playoff teams at 11 a.m. today on ESPN.
If OU is selected, Oklahoma State (10-2, 7-2) will earn the Big 12’s Sugar Bowl berth by virtue of its 49-29 win over TCU. The Frogs (10-2, 7-2) are likely to get the Alamo Bowl nod over Baylor (9-3, 6-3), which lost Saturday to Texas and will likely go to the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
Speculation is that the TCU would play No. 16 Oregon (9-3) in San Antonio.
Kansas State (6-6, 3-6) defeated West Virginia 24-23 Saturday for a probable Liberty Bowl berth. Also bowl-bound are West Virginia (7-5, 4-5) to the Cactus and Texas Tech (7-5, 4-5), probably to the Texas Bowl in Houston against Texas A&M.
