Big 12 coaches honor TCU’s Boykin, Dawson, Patterson

Big 12 coaches have named TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin the league’s offensive player of the year, teammate Paul Dawson the the top defensive player and coach Gary Patterson the coach of the year, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Big 12 team is selected by the league’s 10 head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Safety Chris Hackett and place-kicker Jaden Oberkrom joined Boykin and Dawson on the first team.

Dawson had 128 tackles (181/2 for loss), five sacks and four interceptions. He also recovered three fumbles, forced two fumbles and broke up five passes.

Boykin, a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, ranks third nationally at 363 yards per game. He set TCU season records for passing yards (3,714), touchdown passes (30), total offense (4,356) and touchdowns responsible for (39). He rushed for 642 yards and eight touchdowns.
