TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin joined three fellow signal-callers from the Big 12 among the 17 semifinalists for the 2015 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, given to the nation’s top college quarterback.

Boykin, an O’Brien Award finalist last year, is among a group of semifinalists that includes Baylor’s Seth Russell, Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes, Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield and Houston’s Greg Ward, Jr.

The list, announced Monday, will be trimmed to three finalists on Nov. 24, with the winner announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 10.

The recipient will be honored Feb. 15, 2016 at the Fort Worth Club.

Boykin, a senior, has led the fifth-ranked Horned Frogs (8-0, 5-0 in Big 12) into contention for a Big 12 title and College Football Playoff berth.

If he wins the award, he would become the first quarterback from TCU to receive the honor named for the former TCU quarterback who won the 1938 Heisman Trophy.

Other semifinalists announced Monday included Michigan State’s Connor Cook, Western Kentucky’s Brandon Doughty, Washington State’s Luke Falk, California’s Jared Goff, Stanford’s Kevin Hogan, Bowling Green’s Matt Johnson, Southern California’s Cody Kessler, Memphis’ Paxton Lynch, Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott, Navy’s Keenan Reynolds, UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson.
