Former linebacker Freeze will not return to TCU
Mike Freeze, the freshman linebacker who took a “personal leave of absence” from TCU after the Horned Frogs’ season-opening win at Minnesota, has dropped out of school and has no intentions to return to the program, he said Wednesday.
“I made some great friends at TCU and I believe our friendships will last forever,” Freeze said via Facebook messenger. “I’d also like to say that I have the upmost respect for Coach Patterson. It just turned out that TCU wasn’t a good fit for me. I wish the Frogs the best.”
Freeze said he plans to play elsewhere, but has not been granted his release from the TCU football program.
The season opened in Minnesota with Freeze starting at linebacker, where he recorded seven tackles. Six days later, TCU coach Gary Patterson announced that Freeze had taken a “personal leave of absence,” stating it was for “personal reasons” and was not disciplinary.
It was Freeze’s first in-game action in over a year. He sat out his senior season in high school recovering from a shoulder injury that required surgery. He played his high school ball at Graham, but transferred to Weatherford after the surgery to finish classes, in order to enroll early at TCU and participate in spring practice.
He was a three-star recruit according to Rivals and recored 92 tackles and five interceptions his junior year in high school.
