Listenbee, Lathan return to action for TCU

TCU receiver Kolby Listenbee returned to action Saturday night after missing the Horned Frogs’ first two Big 12 games with an injury.

Listenbee entered on the second possession, which resulted in Josh Doctson’s 32-yard touchdown catch for a 14-7 lead. Listenbee got his first target on the Frogs’ third possession, but the ball sailed high and out of bounds.

Listenbee had not played since going up for a touchdown catch against SMU and falling on his back side. He did not record a catch against Kansas State.

Defensive end Terrell Lathan also returned to action. He left the SMU game with trainers looking at his shoulder. He had a sack in the second quarter.

Fast start

Aaron Green’s 86-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game was the longest of his career.

It was also the fourth-longest run in school history and the longest since LaDainian Tomlinson’s 89-yard effort against UTEP in 2000.

Green came in averaging 100.8 yards per game, and finished Saturday with 11 carries for 121 yards and two scores.

Boykin to Doctson

Quarterback Trevone Boykin and receiver Josh Doctson, who set TCU career records for touchdown passes and receptions last week, respectively, found their chemistry against Kansas State.

They connected for the 32-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and Boykin later hit Doctson with the game-winning 55-yard strike with 1:10 left.

For Boykin, the touchdown passes came in a TCU record-tying 21st consecutive game. That is the nation’s best active streak, and matched Andy Dalton’s record at TCU from 2009 to 2011.

Plane problems

TCU arrived in Manhattan more than two hours later than scheduled Friday because of a problem with the brakes on the team charter plane.

The flight landed at the airport in Topeka, Kan. — which has a longer runway than Manhattan, TCU spokesman Mark Cohen said.

The players then had to wait for buses to make the 60-mile drive from Manhattan, where they were waiting for the team. The Frogs made it to Manhattan at about 7:30 p.m., Cohen said.

Field-goal record

Jaden Oberkrom’s 50-yard field goal in the first half was the 65th of his TCU career, tying the school record set by Nick Browne from 2000 to 2003.

Road draw

Saturday’s game was played before the third-largest crowd at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The Horned Frogs this year also played before the biggest crowd at Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium and the second largest at Texas Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium.
