Why TCU won: The Horned Frogs scored 30 first-quarter points and jumped out to a 37-0 halftime lead, as Texas’ only scoring threats ended in two missed field-goal attempts. Trevone Boykin threw for 332 yards and five touchdowns, passing Andy Dalton’s career mark (71) for touchdown throws in the process.

Receiver Josh Doctson cemented his name in TCU history in the win as well. His two touchdown catches (29 yards, 15 yards) in the first half put him at 23 for his career, one ahead of previous record holder Josh Boyce, who was in attendance at Amon Carter Stadium to watch his record fall. Doctson had his third-consecutive 100-yard day, finishing with seven catches for 129 yards.

But four of Boykin’s five touchdowns through the air went to freshman slot man KaVontae Turpin, who finished with six catches for 138 yards. The TCU defense, piecing itself back together with Mike Tuaua making his first start of the season after assault and robbery charges were dropped against him earlier in the week, allowed Texas only 20 yards in the first quarter while the quick-strike offense built its 30-0 lead

Players of the game: Turpin, whose four touchdown catches give him six on the season, is carving out a big role on offense while receivers Kolby Listenbee and Emmanuel Porter heal from injuries. Boykin, who seems to be rounding into the Heisman-hopeful shape many predicted before the season, now has 74 career touchdown passes, 19 this year.

Records: TCU 5-0, 2-0 Big 12; Texas 1-4, 0-2
