TCU recap: Horned Frogs outlast Minnesota, 23-17
Why TCU won: TCU still has its No. 2 ranking in its back pocket, thanks to a pair of nine-play scoring drives engineered by Trevone Boykin in the third quarter. He drove the Horned Frogs 76 yards on the opening drive of the second half for a 17-3 lead and answered a Minnesota touchdown with a field goal to make it 20-10.
Boykin had 246 yards passing, a touchdown pass and a touchdown run. Josh Doctson caught a touchdown pass, and Aaron Green rushed for 88 yards.
Playing without defensive end James McFarland and defensive tackle Davion Pierson, the Horned Frogs allowed only a field goal in the first half and got two takeways. Terrell Lathon’s strip sack set up a touchdown that gave TCU a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, and Derrick Kindred’s forced fumble kept the lead there in the second quarter.
Player of the game: TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin completed 26 of 42 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 92 yards and a TD.
Records: TCU 1-0, Minnesota 0-1
