TCU adds local opponent to 2027 football schedule after ACC school cancels
The Mean Green football team is making a pit stop in Fort Worth, as TCU announced Friday that the Horned Frogs will play North Texas at home in 2027.
TCU was previously scheduled to play Stanford, which canceled because the ACC has expanded its in-conference schedule to nine games.
The game is tentatively scheduled for the second week of that season, Sept. 11, 2027. The Horned Frogs’ game against Alcorn State previously scheduled for that date will now become the season opener.
The spot on North Texas’ schedule opened up when Texas Tech canceled its 2027 game in Denton, citing the desire to play another home game instead.
The Horned Frogs will face an ascending UNT program that had one of its best seasons in 2025, finishing 12-2 and ranked No. 24 in the final Associated Press rankings, one spot above TCU.
The Horned Frogs and Mean Green will be playing for the first time since 2002, when TCU won 16-10 at Amon G. Carter Stadium. North Texas is 0-3 all-time against the Horned Frogs.
