TCU women’s basketball lands transfer guard from SEC powerhouse
TCU women’s basketball has landed another transfer portal commitment.
The Horned Frogs added LSU freshman Bella Hines to its loaded transfer portal class on Sunday. Hines announced her commitment on Instagram.
Hines is the fifth transfer to commit to TCU and coach Mark Campbell, joining Stanford forward Lara Somfai, North Carolina shooting guard Lani Grant, Utah guard Avery Hjelmstad and Oklahoma State point guard Jadyn Wooten.
The Horned Frogs must completely rebuild their backcourt with the departure of Olivia Miles to the WNBA, Maddie Scherr and Veronica Sheffey to graduation and the transfers of Donovyn Hunter and Taliyah Parker.
Hines could fill the role of the defensive specialist for TCU next season as she thrived in that role for Kim Mulkey and the Tigers. Hines averaged 4.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while climbing her way up LSU’s veteran-heavy rotation.
Hines led the Tigers in charges taken this season. Like Somfai and Hjelmstad, Hines is another player who was highly regarded as a recruit.
Coming out of Eldorado High in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Hines was rated No. 30 by ESPN, No. 24 by On3, No. 26 by Prospects Nation, No. 24 by 247Sports, and No. 35 by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
With Hines’ commitment, TCU’s backcourt is mostly set, but there could be room for one more guard, especially if she’s able to spend time playing on the wing.
In addition to the five transfers, TCU is expecting to retain freshman wing Clara Bielefeld and centers Clara Silva and Sarah Portlock.
