Ex-TCU coach Gary Patterson gives his first impressions of new job at USC
Former TCU football coach Gary Patterson was at the River Ranch Stockyards on Thursday for The Big Night, a fundraiser for The Big Good, the charity founded by Patterson and Grammy-winning performer Leon Bridges.
This year’s event was headlined by country music superstar Kacey Musgraves, and the charity overall has donated $4 million to the North Texas community.
Patterson, who coached the Horned Frogs for parts of 22 seasons, joined Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC this offseason as defensive coordinator.
Patterson gave his early impressions Thursday of the Trojans, who ranked 11th out of 18 teams in the Big Ten last season in points allowed per game (23.0) and 13th in yards allowed (350.8).
“We just got double spring ball. It’s really like, go to work in the dark, come home in the dark. That’s what I went there for,” Patterson said. ”Lincoln Riley is a great guy to work for. Like everywhere, they have great kids inside your program that worked hard, and good coaches, nice people inside of the offices, and so, yeah, just, you know, trying to help make a difference.”
USC is hoping that Patterson can help get the Trojans back to double-digit wins, something that hasn’t happened since the first year of Riley’s tenure in 2022.
