All-Big 12 forward will return to TCU men’s basketball next season

All-Big 12 forward Xavier Edmonds intends to return to TCU next season.

The 6-foot-8 center announced on social media that he’ll run it back in Fort Worth after he helped lead TCU back to the NCAA Tournament. Edmonds scored the game-winning bucket in the Horned Frogs’ first-round victory over Ohio State on March 19.

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone in the TCU community — from my coaches and teammates to the administrators to the fans,” Edmonds said on his X account. “The way you’ve embraced me is something I never expected, and this year is one I will always value. With that being said, let’s run it back!”

Edmonds’ return is a massive win for TCU after Edmonds averaged 12.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Edmonds was a tenacious rebounder down the stretch with 11 double-doubles in Big 12 play while also being one of TCU’s best weapons in the half-court.

The junior showed he has a versatile offensive game with his ability to back down opponents while also knocking down jumpers. He became one of the Big 12’s breakout stars after the injury to starting center Malick Diallo in the season opener inserted him into the starting lineup.

TCU signed Edmonds from Salt Lake Community College, where he was the No. 1-ranked junior college player in the country after two seasons.

With Edmonds back in the fold, the focus now shifts to David Punch and Micah Robinson. TCU is hopeful to bring back both sophomores next season to pair with Edmonds and point guard Brock Harding.
