TCU men’s basketball will compete in marquee midseason tournament

TCU men’s basketball will compete in the 2026 Players Era Men’s Championship in Las Vegas, the school announced Thursday.

The Horned Frogs will be one of eight Big 12 teams to compete in what’s becoming college basketball’s biggest midseason tournament.

TCU, Kansas State, Texas Tech and West Virginia join existing Big 12 participants Baylor, Houston, Kansas and Iowa State in next year’s expanded tournament field.

“Having eight Big 12 teams guarantees that we will have the strongest field ever for what is becoming the second-biggest tournament in college basketball,” Players Era CEO Seth Berger said in a statement.

After debuting with eight teams for its inaugural tournament in 2024, the Players Era Men’s Championship expanded to 18 teams for the 2025 edition and is expanding the field to 32 for year three, as the event establishes itself as the preeminent early season men’s college tournament.

“There isn’t [a tournament] that’s talked about more than the Players Era Championship, and we couldn’t be more excited to participate,” TCU head coach Jamie Dixon said in a statement. “The level of competition and attention surrounding this event make it one of the premier tournaments in college basketball. We’re proud to be part of an event that showcases the game at its highest level.”

Players Era will announce additional information about the 2026 tournament field and format in the coming weeks.

Michigan won this season’s Players Era event, beating Gonzaga 101-61 in the final.

TCU (12-7, 2-4) next plays at Baylor at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Horned Frogs beat Oklahoma State 68-65 on Tuesday.
