Reports: TCU assistant football coach Doug Meacham headed to Oklahoma State
The TCU football program is reportedly losing a position coach to a Big 12 rival.
Multiple reports broke Thursday afternoon that Horned Frogs inside wide receivers coach Doug Meacham will be the next offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State. Meacham was at practice with the Horned Frogs on Thursday morning, hours before the news broke. FootballScoop.com was the first to break the news.
Meacham has coached at TCU since 2020 and also served as co-offensive coordinator in Fort Worth in 2014-16. Before his stint with TCU, Meacham played at Oklahoma State in 1983-87 and also coached there twice from 1989-91 and 2005-12.
Meacham’s hire will be a pivotal one for Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy after his contract was restructured after a disappointing 3-9 season.
Meacham helped coordinate one of the nation’s most explosive offenses in 2014 as TCU reached the Peach Bowl. The Horned Frogs ranked second in the nation in scoring (46.5 ppg) and tied for fifth in total offense (533.0 ypg). Meacham was a 2014 finalist for the Broyles Award, annually given to the nation’s top assistant coach.
After leaving to become the offensive coordinator at Kansas, Meacham returned to TCU in 2020 under Gary Patterson and coached inside wide receivers and tight ends. He served as offensive coordinator 2021 and was retained by Sonny Dykes after Patterson was let go.
Serving as inside receivers coach under Head Coach Sonny Dykes, Meacham mentored Taye Barber and Derius Davis into All-Big 12 honors in 2022 as the Horned Frogs reached the national championship game.
Davis was a fourth-round NFL Draft pick of the Los Angeles Chargers while Barber. In 2023, JP Richardson became the latest Horned Frog to receive All-Big 12 recognition under Meacham. Richardson had a career-high 680 yards this season.
Oklahoma State is reportedly heavily involved with former TCU quarterback Chandler Morris, who entered the transfer portal after a bounce back season at North Texas.
The Horned Frogs face Louisiana in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 28.
