TCU football recruiting notebook: Horned Frogs land two JUCO defensive linemen
The Horned Frogs are beginning to close strong on the recruiting trail ahead of Early Signing Day with two commitments from junior college prospects this week.
The first recruit to join the class was defensive lineman Kelten Mickell. The 6-foot-2, 300 pound defensive tackle announced his commitment to TCU on Monday.
Currently at Jones College in Petal, Mississippi, Mickell is rated the No. 4 JUCO prospect nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings. Mickell also held offers from South Carolina and Kansas State before deciding on the Horned Frogs.
Mickell wasn’t the only defender to commit as TCU also picked up a commitment from JUCO standout Perry Cole. Cole is currently at Trinity Valley Community College in Palestine, Texas.
Cole had just one offer coming out of high school from Louisiana Monroe, but Cole earned offers from Houston, Arizona and Minnesota among others while at Trinity Valley. Cole is ranked the No. 16 JUCO prospect in the country.
TCU now has 27 players committed in the No. 22 class in the country. Coach Sonny Dykes is hopeful the Horned Frogs can track the top-20 again and TCU still has a few targets left on the board.
North Crowley star wide receiver Quentin Gibson remains a priority after his breakout season. The Horned Frogs also extended an offer to JUCO defensive back Kollin Collier over the weekend after he took an official visit to the Arizona game.
Collier is currently unranked and plays Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. JUCO cornerback Jonah Martinez is another name to know and Martinez was recently named an all-conference while at Long Beach City College. Martinez picked up an offer over the weekend as well and also holds an offer from Arizona.
