Dana Holgorsen leaving TCU football program to join Nebraska Cornhuskers

Former Houston coach Dana Holgorsen is leaving the TCU football program to become an offensive analyst for Nebraska.

ESPN national insider Pete Thamel first announced the news Tuesday morning and Horned Frogs head coach Sonny Dykes confirmed the report at his weekly press conference. Holgorsen served as an offensive analyst for TCU and joined the program in the spring after being fired by Houston last season.

Dykes said Holgorsen’s departure wasn’t a surprise.

“That was something we had been talking about a little throughout the season,” Dykes said. “I think Dana talked to them before the season started about a potential role. I was aware of what was going on, I think it’s a good move for Dana, I’m excited for him and he did a really good job here. We appreciate what he did for us and it’s a good opportunity for him for sure.”

Holgorsen didn’t work much with the offense in Fort Worth, instead he worked with defensive coordinator Andy Avalos on potential ways TCU’s opponents would try to attack his defense.

Now Holgorsen will head to Nebraska to try and assist an ailing Cornhuskers offense that is in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

The 53-year-old Holgorsen went 92-69 in 13 seasons as the head coach at West Virginia and Houston, earning a reputation for being one of the top offensive minds in college football. Holgorsen was let go by Houston after the Cougars went 4-8 in their first season in the Big 12.
