Former TCU running back has historic TD in Arizona Cardinals’ win over the Chicago Bears

Ex-TCU running back Emari Demercado pulled off a feat that hadn’t been done in over 50 years in the Arizona Cardinals’ 29-9 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

With under 30 seconds left in the half and stuck at midfield the Cardinals handed the ball off to Demercado who broke the run 53-yards for a touchdown, his first of the season.

He finished the game with four carries for 59 yards with a touchdown and two catches for 21 yards.

Demercado starred at TCU from 2018-22 helping lead the Horned Frogs to the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the first-half run was the longest with under 20 seconds remaining in a half since the 1970 NFL merger.

Demercado wasn’t the only Horned Frog who had a good Sunday, Quentin Johnston and Tre’von Moehrig also had standout performances.

Moehrig had 13 tackles, which led the team, and 0.5 sacks in the Las Vegas Raiders’ 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Moehrig spent 2018-2020 in Fort Worth earning two All-Big 12 selections while with the Horned Frogs.

Johnston is putting together a stellar sophomore season after struggling during his rookie year and continued with four catches for 118 yards including a 66-yard touchdown.

The former Horned Frog has doubled his touchdown production from last season in only six games. Johnston earned two All-Big 12 selections in his three years with TCU which ended after the 2022 season.
