Former TCU star quarterback released by the Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have released former TCU quarterback Max Duggan.

The ex-Horned Frog was competing with Luis Perez and Easton Stick for the backup QB role behind starter Justin Herbert.

In the 2023 season, Duggan was also released by the Chargers but was resigned to their practice squad and was called up to the active roster after Justin Herbert went down with a season-ending injury in December.

The Chargers drafted Duggan in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft after a standout final collegiate season.

Duggan played four seasons in Fort Worth from 2019-22 and broke out in his final season, throwing for 3,698 yard with 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions en route to earning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, the Davey O’Brien award and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Duggan finished the 2022 season by leading TCU to the College Football Playoff national championship, where they lost to Georgia.

His final college win was over Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl, the CFP semifinal game. Coincidentally, that’s the last game that Jim Harbaugh lost as a college coach. Harbaugh is now the coach of the Chargers and the coach who released him.
