Kickoff time set for Battle for the Iron Skillet game between TCU, SMU football
A kickoff time has been set for TCU’s rivalry game at SMU on Sept. 21.
The Battle for the Iron Skillet will have a 4 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast on the CW network. The SMU football Twitter account announced a 3 p.m. kickoff time on Tuesday, but the time was pushed back an hour on Wednesday.
The Horned Frogs had a disappointing 5-7 campaign last year, but one of the highlight for Sonny Dykes was a 34-17 win over his former team that wasn’t as close as the score indicates.
The Horned Frogs will aim to replicate that result in a game that is important for both teams. The Mustangs are in the ACC now, and hope that invitation is enough to close the gap with TCU.
For the Horned Frogs the matchup comes one week after the Big 12 opener against Central Florida. Depending on the outcome TCU could be looking to avoid a two-game skid or get off to a 4-0 start to the season.
This is also one of the last games between the two for the foreseeable future as the annual rivalry matchup will be paused after 2025 matchup at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
TCU opens the season at Stanford on Aug. 30 with a 9:30 p.m. kickoff.
