TCU overcomes big early deficit, drops Oklahoma State in Stillwater
TCU overcame a 17-point first-half deficit to beat Oklahoma State, 74-69, in Stillwater on Tuesday night to snap the Horned Frogs’ two-game losing streak.
The Horned Frogs improved to 14-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big 12. The Cowboys fell to 8-11 overall and are winless in six conference games.
The Horned Frogs trailed by 17 points, 33-16, in the first half. However, they used a 17-4 run at the end of the half to trail by only four, 37-33.
The two teams traded the lead numerous times in the second half before the Horned Frogs pulled away late.
Emanuel Miller led the Horned Frogs with 21 points, while Micah Peavy added 16 and Avery Anderson III scored 15. Miller also had a game-high 11 rebounds.
John-Michael Wright led the Cowboys with 16 points.
The victory was just the fourth win in 16 visits in Stillwater for the Horned Frogs.
The two teams had contrasting shooting nights. The Horned Frogs made 52.6% (30 of 57 field goals), but made just 20% (3 of 15 three-point goals). Oklahoma State made 37% (10 of 27) of its three-point goals, but just 41.2% (21 of 51) overall from the field.
The Horned Frogs also did a better job of taking care of the ball than they did in their two previous losses. After committing 46 turnovers against Cincinnati and Iowa State last week, TCU had just nine turnovers on Tuesday.
TCU returns to the court on Saturday when the Horned Frogs travel to Baylor.
