TCU football notebook: Horned Frogs land multiple transfers in the secondary

New Mexico State transfer cornerback Andre Seldon was the first to commit. The 5-foot-9 defensive back took an official visit to TCU this weekend and also considered Wisconsin and Texas A&M.

Originally from Belleville, Mich., Seldon was a four-star prospect and an Under Armour All-American before signing with Michigan out of high school. Seldon started 28 games for the Aggies splitting time at nickel and corner. He totaled 98 tackles, two interceptions and 13 pass deflections.

The next to join the fold was Old Dominion cornerback LaMareon James. James announced his commitment on X on Saturday. James had the best season of his career with 60 tackles, seven pass deflections, an interception and two forced fumbles for the Monarchs.

Next, Memphis defensive back Cameron Smith also announced on X he was committing to the Horned Frogs. In three seasons with the Tigers, Smith started 13 games and in 2023 he produced 57 tackles, three interceptions and six pass breakups. Smith projects as a safety for TCU.

The next to join the fold was Nevada safety Richard Toney Jr. announced his commitment on social media as well. The Arlington native started nine games in 2023 and had 67 tackles and two interceptions that he returned for touchdowns. Toney will be a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining.
