Former TCU quarterback Bram Kohlhausen is in intensive care in a San Antonio hospital, according to former coach Gary Patterson.

Patterson wrote on Twitter that Kohlhausen “suffered serious injuries” without elaborating.

“He will need all your help and prayers,” he wrote.

Kohlhausen had one of the most memorable performances in college football history when he led the Horned Frogs to a 31-point comeback victory over Oregon in the 2016 Alamo Bowl.

Kohlhausen got the start — his first and only at TCU — after Trevone Boykin was suspended for a bar fight three nights before the game.

The Horned Frogs trailed 31-0 at halftime before Kohlhausen rallied them to victory, setting three school bowl records in the process.

The Alamo Bowl wasn’t the only time Kohlhausen had to rally TCU.

In 2015 he nearly led TCU to a Big 12 championship. With the Horned Frogs trailing 30-13 at Oklahoma, Kohlhausen took over for Foster Sawyer near the end of the game and led another rally. TCU scored three times in the final nine minutes of the game, but Kohlhausen’s 2-point conversion attempt fell incomplete with less than a minute remaining.

Off the field, Kohlhausen was viewed as a great teammate and still regularly comes around the program including during last year’s College Football Playoff run. Kohlhausen and Boykin were also best friends and remain close post-TCU.

Kohlhausen, who graduated from Houston Lamar, played two years at Houston and transferred to L.A. Harbor College for a year before joining TCU in 2014. Kohlhausen was a top-20 prospect in Texas in the Class of 2011, ranking ahead of Johnny Manziel and Boykin.

After football Kohlhausen moved to Austin where he works in the business sector.

His story was the subject of a book, “Remember the Alamo Bowl: Bram Kohlhausen’s Epic TCU Comeback,” by former Star-Telegram columnist Jim Reeves.

TCU beat writer Steven Johnson contributed to this story.
