After an early bye week, TCU is starting to get healthier just before the start of Big 12 play.

Head coach Sonny Dykes provided a number of updates on key players ahead of Saturday’s game at SMU.

Quarterback Chandler Morris will miss his second straight game with a knee injury, but there was more positive news for free safety Bud Clark and linebacker Marcel Brooks.

“Bud, we’re hopeful that he can play. We’ll see how the week plays out,” Dykes said. “Marcel will probably dress out for the game. We’ll see what he ends up doing. A lot it is going to depend on how he feels the rest of the week and how he progresses.”

Clark was going to be the starter at safety, but has missed the first two games of the season with a lower body injury. Brooks was hurt near the beginning of fall camp with a rib injury and has also been out the first two games. His potential return would be huge for the linebacker group that is already dealing with injuries to Thomas Armstrong and Terrence Cooks.

Kicker Griffin Kell was on the sideline against Tarleton, but was held out for rest. It looks like he could return for SMU as well.

“He’s been a little injured, we felt like we had an opportunity to rest him. We probably overkicked him a little bit in a camp which is probably my fault. I think we’re to that point now where we’re confident in him and feel like he’s in a good spot. We’ll see how he kicks the rest of the week,” Dykes said.
