A reunion? Sources indicate Kendric Davis is open to returning to TCU basketball
Former TCU basketball player Kendric Davis is back in the NCAA transfer portal after three seasons with the SMU Mustangs. Sources indicate that a reunion between the Frogs and Davis is not out of the question.
Davis is contemplating pursuing a professional career after earning American Athletic Conference player of the year honors, but is leaving all options on the table. Those options include returning to SMU for a super senior season or landing at another school such as TCU. Programs such as Houston and Memphis are also reportedly expected to be in the mix.
As far as TCU, Davis is not expected to be impacted by Mike Miles’ decision to return. As one source said, Kansas made a backcourt work with Devonte’ Graham and Frank Mason for three seasons from 2014-15 through 2016-17.
In other words, if Davis and Miles are both on board with the situation, it could work out well. The Jayhawks won three Big 12 regular-season titles and made two Elite Eight runs with Graham and Mason sharing the backcourt.
Miles announced Monday night that he would be returning for his junior season.
The idea of a backcourt featuring Miles and Davis has to excite the Frog fan base. TCU is coming off one of its greatest seasons, ending a 35-year drought between NCAA Tournament victories and winning a program-record five games against ranked teams.
Miles averaged 15.4 points per game, despite battling through injuries to both wrists in the second half of the year. Davis averaged 19.4 points per game for the Mustangs, who were among the top snubs of the NCAA Tournament.
Davis started his college career with TCU, averaging 6.3 points and 17.1 minutes in 37 games (two starts) as a true freshman in 2018-19. He transferred to SMU, where he’s started every game (77) he’s played since the 2019-20 season.
