TCU AD Jeremiah Donati calls Bob Bowlsby ‘a legend in the world of college athletics’
The Big 12 announced Tuesday that commissioner Bob Bowlsby would be stepping down later this year and transitioning into a new role within the league office.
TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati had nothing but praise for Bowlsby when he heard the news.
“Commissioner Bowlsby is a legend in the world of college athletics,” Donati said. “He has had an incredible impact in the lives of thousands of student-athletes spanning decades of service. There are very few, if any, who can say they have given as much to our industry as he has.
“He will me missed.”
Bowlsby, who has served as the league’s commissioner since 2012, has had what most would view as a successful tenure. However, the league was dealt a blow last summer when flagships Oklahoma and Texas announced plans to join the SEC in the summer of 2025.
Among the league’s highlights over Bowlsby’s tenure are 25 NCAA team national championships, including Monday’s victory by Kansas in the men’s basketball title game. Last school year, the Big 12 had five NCAA team national championships, including a Baylor men’s basketball championship.
In football, the Big 12 has had teams reach the College Football Playoff and been home to two of the last five Heisman Trophy winners.
