‘Special day.’ TCU men’s tennis captures its first national championship
TCU has another national championship.
The men’s tennis program won the 2022 ITA Team Indoor National Championship on Monday in Seattle, defeating No. 3 Tennessee, 4-1, at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
It’s the first national championship for the men’s tennis program.
“Special day,” head coach David Roditi told the school’s athletics website GoFrogs.com. “Not just for our players, but our alumni, our Frog family, this title means a lot. I’m super excited that our players were actually able to get that title. I feel very fortunate as a coach and very thankful to be in this situation. Our coaching staff, Devin Bowen and Derek Siddiqui have been locked in all weekend. It took a true team effort, not just today, but all weekend long.
“This one is for all the coaches and all the alumni that have put their blood, sweat and tears into our program for us to get to this moment. I’m ecstatic.”
Along with defeating Tennessee, TCU also had victories over top-ranked Ohio State, No. 13 Texas and No. 12 Virginia in the 16-team field.
The Frogs closed the indoor season by winning 10 consecutive matches, including the last seven over ranked teams. Of TCU’s 12 victories on the season, four came against top-5 programs.
TCU starts its outdoor season against Michigan on March 2 in Fort Worth.
