TCU basketball receives good news on star guard Mike Miles’ wrist injury
TCU guard Mike Miles isn’t expected to miss any games with a right wrist injury sustained during Saturday’s loss to No. 1 Baylor.
Miles underwent X-rays on Sunday and they came back negative, TCU officials told the Star-Telegram. Miles’ wrist still hurts, but TCU coach Jamie Dixon said he sees no reason why Miles would be sidelined for Wednesday’s game at Kansas State.
Asked if Miles would be available for the game, Dixon said in a text message: “Don’t see why not.”
Miles is the Frogs’ leading scorer and the unquestioned leader of the team. He is averaging 17.7 points a game this season, which is the third-most in the Big 12.
Miles was in the midst of a career game against top-ranked Baylor on Saturday, scoring 18 points in the first half to help TCU build a 37-31 lead by halftime. Miles had an early four-point play in the second half but sustained a wrist injury on his shooting hand (right) shortly after that while being fouled by Baylor’s Matthew Mayer.
Miles’ free throw attempts fell short. Trainers eventually taped up Miles’ wrist and he played through the injury but was less effective. Miles scored only four more points the rest of the day, finishing with a game-high 26 points.
“It hurt everything,” Miles said of the injury. “I couldn’t really flick it. When I was dribbling, I lost it a couple of times because I couldn’t really do everything I wanted to do. It’s sore right now. But we’ve got a couple of days I can rest, get treatment and come back better for Wednesday at Kansas State.”
TCU (10-2, 0-1) travels to Kansas State (8-6, 0-3) for its next game on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Manhattan.
