TCU football will be without its leading rusher and receiver as it tries to become bowl eligibility this afternoon at Iowa State.

Joining running back Zach Evans on the list of players sidelined is wide receiver Quentin Johnston. Johnston, like Evans, did not make the trip to Ames. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. with the Horned Frogs (5-6) needing a victory to become bowl eligible.

Evans has a team-leading 648 yards rushing, while Johnston has a team-leading 634 yards receiving. Evans’ top backup, sophomore Kendre Miller, will be a game-time decision. Miller, who is battling a rib injury, managed to play in last week’s game against Kansas.

Along with Evans and Johnston, TCU’s defense is depleted. Starting safety T.J. Carter headlines the list of defensive backs out today. Others include reserve safeties Da’Veawn Armstead and D’Arco Perkins-McAllister as well as cornerback Kee’yon Stewart.

Backup defensive end Colt Ellison is also out with an injury.

Among the players available include quarterback Max Duggan, who will undergo surgery on his foot next week in Dallas. Duggan has been playing through a broken bone in his fifth metatarsal region. It’s an injury that can’t get worse by playing through it, but will require surgery and 12 weeks recovery in the offseason.

TCU will have a handful of players who start every game this season. Offensively, left tackle Obinna Eze and right tackle Andrew Coker have started every game. Defensively, those honors go to defensive end Ochaun Mathis, linebacker Dee Winters and cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson.
