TCU basketball is dealing with injury issues early on this season.

Junior guard Damion Baugh, a transfer from Memphis, sustained an ankle injury in the season-opening victory over McNeese State on Thursday night. The injury will keep Baugh out of tonight’s game against Southern Miss, coach Jamie Dixon said.

Dixon said Baugh’s injury will be evaluated on a game-by-game basis. TCU’s next game is against Nicholls State on Thursday night, and Baugh is hopeful to be ready for it.

Baugh had six points, three assists and two steals in 13 minutes of action against McNeese State. He went through the entire summer and preseason without missing a practice, Dixon said.

Asked about Baugh’s importance following the opener, Dixon said: “He’s done some really good things. He’s unselfish. He plays with a lot of energy. He’s been a great defender for us on the weak side, the help side, away from the ball.

“We started him, so he’s actually earned the playing time. He’s a guy that moves the ball, and I don’t think we moved as well today. Maybe him not playing as much was part of that, but that’s just something we’re going to have to get to work on and figure out.”

In other injury news, TCU is expected to have Maxwell Evans available tonight. Evans, a senior transfer from Vanderbilt, is coming off a season in which he averaged 8.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in all 25 games for the Commodores.

Tip-off tonight is set for 7 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena.
