‘We’re a soccer school.’ TCU hosts Prairie View A&M to open the NCAA Tournament
The TCU women’s soccer team continues to trend in the right direction under coach Eric Bell.
The Horned Frogs swept the Big 12 titles this season, winning the regular-season and tournament championships, and punched their ticket to a sixth straight NCAA Tournament.
TCU opens the tournament with a home game against SWAC champion Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. Friday at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
“We’re a soccer school right now, right?” Bell said, laughing during a news conference this week.
“We have a pretty experienced team that is pretty confident right now. Even if we go down a goal, or two goals, we can come back and still get the job done.”
TCU is hosting a first-round game in the NCAAs for the third time in program history. The Frogs are a 4 seed in the New Brunswick, New Jersey (Rutgers) Quadrant.
TCU finished 17-2-2 on the season and hasn’t lost since Sept. 26 against Baylor. The Frogs won the Big 12 tournament with a 2-1 victory over Texas on Sunday.
TCU and Texas are the only Big 12 schools that received bids into the NCAA Tournament. The Frogs are among 14 programs that have appeared in the last six NCAAs.
TCU reached the Elite Eight in last year’s tournament (which was played during the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the deepest run in program history.
