TCU’s Farabello expected to miss rest of season; Frogs face K-State on Saturday
The TCU men’s basketball team is not expected to have sophomore guard Francisco Farabello available for the rest of the season, a source told the Star-Telegram on Friday.
Farabello has been sidelined for more than a month due to COVID-19 protocols, but has been around the team. The last game he played was Jan. 9 against Baylor when he scored two points in 11 minutes.
Farabello played in nine games this season, averaging 5.3 points in 24.5 minutes. With the NCAA freezing eligibility for winter athletes during the pandemic, this could essentially serve as a redshirt-type season for Farabello.
Wildcats coming to town
TCU is readying for its first game in a week with Kansas State visiting town on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena.
The Frogs (11-8, 4-6 Big 12) are favored to win as they should be. The Wildcats (5-18, 1-13 Big 12) are on a 13-game losing streak, which started when they lost to TCU on Jan. 2 in Manhattan.
The Wildcats are coming off an 18-point home loss to No. 23 Kansas, while the Frogs had a 70-55 road loss at No. 12 Texas last Saturday.
TCU was scheduled to play three games in five days with its home-and-home series against Texas Tech scheduled for early in the week, but those games were postponed because of the region’s winter storm.
Briefly
▪ K-State leads the all-time series 17-9, but TCU has won three of the last four including a sweep of last year’s home-and-home series. However, the Wildcats defeated the Frogs in the Big 12 tournament last year, the day before college basketball season was abruptly halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
▪ TCU junior guard RJ Nembhard has posted double-digit scoring tallies in 16 straight games. He now sits in fourth in the Big 12 with 16.9 points per game.
▪ TCU’s following game is against No. 13 West Virginia on Tuesday in Fort Worth. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
