TCU receiving votes in preseason AP poll; four Big 12 teams ranked
TCU is receiving votes in the preseason AP poll released on Monday.
The Horned Frogs are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 5-7 season in which they missed bowl eligibility for just the third time in Gary Patterson’s tenure.
TCU received nine points among voters. Tennessee, the 25th-ranked team, had 133 points.
As far as the Big 12, four teams landed in the Top 25 headlined by Oklahoma at No. 5. The other schools in the conference , No. 14 Texas, No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Iowa State. Baylor received 15 votes..
Other Texas-based schools of note include Texas A&M being ranked No. 13 and SMU, which received three votes.
Clemson is the preseason’s top-ranked team followed by Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia.
Voters were told to include Big Ten teams such as Ohio State in the preseason poll even though it won’t be playing this fall. After the season starts, only teams that are playing will be included.
TCU opens its season against SMU on Sept. 12 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
