TCU’s Garret Wallow, Trevon Moehrig voted to media preseason All-Big 12 football team
TCU linebacker Garret Wallow and defensive back Trevon Moehrig were named to the 2020 preseason All-Big 12 football team on Thursday, which is voted on by media representatives.
The Big 12 preseason poll will be announced Friday afternoon.
Wallow, an incoming senior, led the Big 12 last season with 125 tackles. He was tied for ninth in the nation with 10.4 tackles per game. He had a team-high 18 tackles for loss and had a career-high 19 tackles against SMU.
Wallow was named first-team All-Big 12 and honorable mention All-American.
Moehrig, an incoming junior safety, also made first-team All-Big 12 after placing second on the team with four interceptions and 11 pass breakups.
Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard was voted preseason offensive player of the year while West Virginia defensive lineman Darius Stills was voted preseason defensive player of the year.
Hubbard was a first-team All-American and voted Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year after leading the FBS with 2,094 rushing yards. Stills was voted first-team All-Big 12 after recording 47 tackles and team-highs seven sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss.
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler was voted preseason newcomer of the year. Rattler was a 5-star recruit out of Pinnacle High School in Phoenix and ranked as the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in nation among the class of 2019.
Texas QB Sam Ehlinger was voted first-team quarterback.
Four from the Dallas-Fort Worth area were voted to the preseason team: Oklahoma’s Charleston Rambo (Cedar Hill), Oklahoma State’s Tylan Wallace (Fort Worth South Hills). Texas Tech’s Jack Anderson (Frisco), Iowa State’s Greg Eisworth (South Grand Prairie).
Wallace, who was an All-American at South Hills, was also named to the Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list on Thursday, an award that goes to the top receiver in the country.
Texas and Oklahoma tied for the most selections with five. The Sooners had four players on offense while the Longhorns had three players on defense.
