Mansfield Summit’s Jackson following in his dad’s footsteps by committing to TCU
TCU landed its first offensive line recruit for the 2021 class on Friday afternoon.
Mansfield Summit offensive tackle Jacoby Jackson announced his intentions to play for the Horned Frogs via Twitter on Friday.
Jackson will continue his family’s legacy at TCU. His father, Cedric, was a running back at TCU from 1988-90 during the Jim Wacker era.
“Getting Jackson was a big recruiting haul for the Frogs,” said Jeremy Clark, recruiting expert and Horned Frog Blitz publisher. “TCU badly needed a offensive line commitment in this class. Jackson has a big frame and I love the way he moves his feet. He’s also got a really long reach that helps him get better leverage against good speed guys off the edge.“
Another positive for TCU is the success rate it has had with producing offensive linemen for the NFL. There are 11 former offensive linemen on NFL rosters.
Jackson, a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, is a 6-foot-6, 320-pounder who had offers from a number of schools. Along with TCU, Baylor, Boise State, Arizona, Texas Tech, Florida State, Iowa State, SMU, Oklahoma State and Mississippi State showed interest.
“TCU beat out a ton of good programs for Jackson. He had nearly 40 offers on the table,” Clark said. “I like the fact that he’s going to a school he’s dreamed of playing for since he was a small kid.“
He was first-team all-district in 7-6A last season, helping the Jaguars to a 7-4 record and playoff berth.
Jackson is the fifth player to commit to the Frogs for 2021, joining quarterbacks Alexander Honig and Trent Battle, wide receiver Chase Jackson and defensive end Chris Murray.
“With TCU losing two tackles at the conclusion of the 2020 season, I can see Jackson as the type of player that could come in and have a good impact — maybe not as an immediate starter, but certainly good enough to add depth early on,” Clark said.
