For the second straight year, TCU has a player drafted by the Green Bay Packers
TCU safety Vernon Scott is headed to the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers used a seventh-round pick (236th overall) to select Scott on Day 3 of the NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon. Scott is the second consecutive TCU player to be drafted by the Packers in the seventh round, joining linebacker Ty Summers (a seventh-round pick by them in 2019).
Scott finished last season with 44 tackles, two tackles for loss, seven pass breakups and one interception. He returned his lone interception 98 yards for a pick-six touchdown in TCU’s 28-24 loss at Oklahoma.
Scott is 6-foot-2, 209 pounds and had a “virtual” top 30 visit with the Packers last month. He told the Star-Telegram last month that he’d bring versatility to a team at the next level with experience at multiple safety spots, cornerback and special teams.
Scott is the fifth TCU player drafted this year. Wide receiver Jalen Reagor (Eagles) and cornerback Jeff Gladney (Vikings) were first-round picks; defensive tackle Ross Blacklock (Texans) was a second-round pick; and right tackle Lucas Niang (Chiefs) was a third-round pick.
Gladney and Scott mark the first time TCU has had multiple defensive backs drafted since 2011 with Colin Jones and Malcolm Williams. TCU had the Big 12’s top-ranked pass defense in 2019, allowing 199.7 yards passing a game.
