TCU football players mourn the loss of former teammate found dead in Arlington
The body of a former TCU football player was found in a grassy area next to railroad tracks near Arlington municipal court, authorities said Saturday.
Reginald Cole, 21, was found dead of a gunshot wound at 3 p.m. Friday off of the 100 block of South East Street in Arlington, which is near the city’s municipal court, according to a report filed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office. Arlington Police do not suspect foul play.
Cole, who would have turned 22 on Monday, was a walk-on football player at TCU for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He appeared in one game, playing the 2018 season opener against Southern.
“We are incredibly saddened to learn of the sudden passing of former TCU football student-athlete Reggie Cole,” TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati said in a statement. “During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many other friends and former teammates who knew and loved him.”
Several TCU players, including Jalen Reagor, Innis Gaines, Darius Anderson and Kellton Hollins, offered condolences on social media Saturday.
“R.I.P. Reggie Cole, rest easy dawg,” Reagor posted on his Twitter account.
Said Hollins: “Wow man RIP Reggie. Life is crazy which is why we must lean on [each] other. Prayers up.”
Chauncey Franks, a life and character coach with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at TCU, wrote: “Saddened by the news of Reggie passing away. If any TCU student needs to talk please don’t hesitate to reach out.”
Cole played high school football at Dallas Carter as a running back and safety. He was a two-time all-district running back and voted team’s most valuable player his junior and senior years. He also ran track at the school, and was a two-time state finalist in the 4x100 and 4x 200 relays.
