Amid coronavirus concerns, TCU cancels spring football game, bans fans from home games
TCU is closing fan access to home athletics events until at least April 3, citing growing coronavirus concerns.
All events will be open only to “essential personnel,” the school announced.
“Essential personnel are student-athletes, coaches, trainers, team and medical personnel, game officials, operational and administrative staff, student-athlete families, credentialed media and TCU recruits,” the school said in a news release.
Among the most notable event affected is TCU canceling its spring football scrimmage that had been scheduled for March 28 at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The university planned to unveil the east-side expansion that day, but it will now do so at a later date.
Spring football practices are expected to be delayed at least a week, too, according to a source. Before TCU’s announcement, a couple football players voiced concerns over practicing on social media.
TCU is still scheduled to hold its pro day for aspiring NFL prospects on March 27 but, as a school official said, “everything is fluid.”
It’s been a fluid and evolving process in the last few days for TCU and every school in determining how to proceed with the threat of the virus spreading.
As of now, the following spring games will be played without being open to the general public at TCU:
