TCU QB Mike Collins exits Baylor game with injury, doubtful vs. Oklahoma State
TCU can’t seem to avoid injuries this season.
The latest came on Saturday with quarterback Mike Collins exiting with a right leg injury in the first quarter against Baylor. Collins is doubtful to play against Oklahoma State, coach Gary Patterson said after TCU’s 16-9 victory.
Senior Grayson Muehlstein replaced Collins at quarterback for the Frogs, and is expected to start the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State.
Collins was slow to get up after a hit on the second offensive series, but returned for the third series. On the first down play with 5:04 left in the opening quarter, Collins was injured after being taken to the ground by a Baylor defensive lineman after a pass play to Sewo Olonilua.
The Collins injury is another blow to a team that’s had a seemingly endless list of injuries this season. The Frogs starting quarterback at the beginning of the season, Shawn Robinson, is already out after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
Coach Gary Patterson said TCU has had 20 players undergo season-ending surgeries, and another 16 miss at least four games with injuries.
Collins was making his fourth consecutive start at quarterback. He entered the game with 1,045 passing yards on 75-of-134 passing with six touchdowns and two interceptions. Against Baylor, he was 4-for-6 for 14 yards.
Muehlstein hasn’t played since the second game of the season against SMU and Saturday marks just his eighth career game. The fifth-year senior had his first career completion in this year’s season opener against Southern.
