After doing something never done before, all eyes on Texas A&M for TCU soccer team
The TCU women’s soccer team has done something that’s never been done in program history – win an NCAA Tournament game.
But the Lady Frogs aren’t satisfied with that, coach Eric Bell said. They are determined to keep the season going with a second-round matchup against Texas A&M on Friday afternoon.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Knoxville, Tennessee. TCU is 13-4-3 on the season, while A&M is 16-4-1.
“I saw their faces [in practice] and they really want to go as far as they can possibly go,” Bell said earlier this week. “Really excited about the opportunity on Friday.”
This is the third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for TCU and, as stated, the furthest its advanced.
TCU scored two second-half goals to rally for a 2-1 victory over BYU in the first round.
Messiah Bright and Yazmeen Ryan scored the goals, and goalkeeper Emily Alvarado finished with six saves. TCU has scored 27 of its 35 goals this season in the second half.
Asked if his team is peaking at the right time, Bell said: “I think that we’re in a really good spot. I don’t know if we’re peaking. I like the soccer that we’re playing. I like our mentality as a group and the camaraderie in the group is quite positive and spirited.”
The winner of the TCU-Texas A&M game will face the winner of Tennessee-Arizona on Sunday.
