TCU football vs. Iowa State Cyclones game: Kickoff time, TV, line, prediction

TCU returns to Amon G. Carter Stadium. Finally.

“It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve been back at home,” linebacker Garret Wallow said. “So it’s exciting to play in front of our home crowd.”

TCU hasn’t had a home game since the opener against Southern on Sept. 1. But the Frogs have yet to leave the state of Texas this season with a road game at SMU, a neutral site game vs. Ohio State at AT&T Stadium and a road game at Texas to open Big 12 play.

TCU returns home looking to get back in the win column after two consecutive losses. The Frogs had halftime leads, but endured forgettable third-quarter stretches that flipped the game to Ohio State and Texas.

So playing at “The Carter” will be a welcomed sight for the team. TCU has won seven straight home games, and have beaten Iowa State the last two times the game was played in Fort Worth.

The Cyclones have won just once in Fort Worth, knocking off the Frogs in their Big 12 home debut in 2012.

“It always feels good being in ‘The Carter,’” senior defensive end Ben Banogu said. “You’re surrounded by great fans, great atmosphere and playing in front of your home fans is always good.

“And something about ‘The Carter’ at night. It’s always a little more lively, so I’m really excited about that.”

Did you know?

Patterson’s first game as a member of the TCU coaching staff came against Iowa State in 1998. TCU won 31-21 with Patterson serving as defensive coordinator. … The Frogs have won seven straight at home. … Former TCU women’s golfer Angela Stanford, fresh off becoming a major champion, will be recognized at the game.

They said it

“Last year we were a different team and last year they were a different team. Now this year we’re a different team and they’re a different team. So it’s not a revenge game, it’s nothing personal. It’s just another game of football. It’s another game of going out there and doing what we do best – playing football.” – TCU linebacker Garret Wallow

“We’ve been really fortunate since we’ve been here to have some of those bigger body guys, guys that certainly have the physical attributes on the outside. That’s a big help for us and certainly what we want to do offensively.” – Iowa State coach Matt Campbell on having bigger receivers such as 6-foot-6 Hakeem Butler

Prediction

This game was a low-scoring affair a season ago, and it’ll be another “grind-it-out” kind of game as Patterson suggested earlier this week. Shawn Robinson and the Frogs fix their third-quarter woes and pick up the season’s first Big 12 victory.

TCU 23, Iowa State 13
