Familiar Texas name earns top Big 12 honors; TCU places eight on all-conference team
Infielder Kody Clemens, the University of Texas infielder who led the Longhorns' sweep of TCU to close out the regular season, was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year.
Clemens, the son of major league legend Roger Clemens, was among the Big 12 leaders in nearly every offensive category, including a league-leading 19 home runs, 147 total bases, and a .703 slugging percentage.
Eight TCU players were named to the All-Big 12 team, including right-hander relief pitcher Durbin Feltman, who was the Horned Frogs' lone first team selection.
Outfielder Josh Watson and left-hander Nick Lodolo earned second-team honors. Outfielder A.J Balta and short stop Adam Oviedo earned honorable mention nods.
TCU had a league-high four players selected to the All-Freshman team — Oviedo, Coby Boulware, Augie Mihlbauer and Caleb Sloan.
The Big 12 tournament begins Wednesday morning at Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City. No. 6 seed TCU (30-22) opens against No. 3 Texas Tech (38-15) in the last game of the day at 7:30 p.m. and will air on FCS.
