Reserves catch fire as TCU women blow past Northwestern State

The TCU women’s basketball team maintained its offensive rhythm after a week off and crushed Northwestern State 89-51 on Sunday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena.

The Horned Frogs (8-2) flaunted their bench’s firepower against the Demons (4-6), with the reserves racking up 52 points and 23 rebounds. Amy Okonkwo led the charge with 19 points and a career-high five steals.

Depth shined as every TCU player earned at least 13 minutes. Jordan Moore led the starters with 18 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Adeola Akomolafe took advantage of extra minutes to record 12 points and seven rebounds.

TCU also stepped up on defense, holding Northwestern State to 36 percent shooting and forcing 21 turnovers. The Horned Frogs took a 20-point lead midway through the second quarter and cruised to the easy victory.

With one game to play, TCU has a chance to finish nonconference play with its best record under coach Raegan Pebley.

The Horned Frogs host Hampton on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Arkansas 91, UT Arlington women 57: A three-game road trip against Power 5 teams ended for the Mavericks with a loss to the Razorbacks on Sunday at Bud Walton Arena.

Arkansas (8-3) outscored UTA 28-11 over the final 10 minutes to hand the Mavericks (5-5) their fifth straight loss.

Rebekah VanDijk led the offense with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Shelby Richards had a career-high 12 points, while Laurynn McGowen added 10.

The Razorbacks spread the love on offense, finishing with four players in double figures. Raven Northcross-Baker had a game-high 22 points, knocking down six 3-pointers for Arkansas.

The Mavericks will look to bounce back Thursday as they return home to face the University of San Francisco at 4:30 p.m.
