After giving up a solo home run on his second pitch, Alex Young settled down and threw seven strong innings as No. 2-ranked TCU defeated No. 24 Texas Tech 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.

Young (6-1) allowed four hits, walked two and fanned seven as the Frogs (23-6, 6-3 Big 12) won two of three against the Red Raiders (19-13, 4-5). Trey Teakell and Riley Ferrell combined to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Teakell struck out the first two batters in the eighth before a base hit and a walk brought the tying run to the plate. Ferrell came on and retired all four batters he faced for his eighth save of the season.

The Frogs scored three runs in the second inning. Keaton Jones and Nolan Brown started the rally with back-to-back singles. With two outs and runners on the corners, Garrett Crain stole second. Derek Odell delivered a two-run single, and Cody Jones singled in the third run.

TCU added a run in the eighth on an RBI-single by Brown.

The Frogs play at Abilene Christian at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
