Cameron Smith pitched a complete-game five-hitter and No. 24 Texas Tech handed TCU starter Preston Morrison his first loss of the season with a 5-1 victory over the No. 2-ranked Frogs Friday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders evened the three-game series at a game apiece.

Smith (4-2) gave up three of TCU’s five hits in the second inning, including a triple by Keaton Jones, as the Frogs (22-6, 5-3 Big 12) took a 1-0 lead.

That lead didn’t last long. Quinn Carpenter laced a two-run double to right center as Texas Tech (19-12, 4-4) tagged Morrison for three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second.

The Frogs managed only six base runners, two of which reached on errors, over the final seven innings.

Dane Steinhagen had three of TCU’s five hits in the loss.

TCU and Texas Tech will play the final game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Alex Young will get the start for TCU.
