TCU women stumble late against LSU’s pressure defense

The TCU women’s basketball team faltered late against LSU’s pressure defense Sunday in a 67-61 loss in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La.

The Horned Frogs (5-2) committed 22 turnovers, including seven in the decisive fourth quarter. TCU led 55-50 with 5:23 remaining before the Tigers (6-2) unleashed a 12-0 run as the Frogs committed four turnovers.

AJ Alix, who scored 16 points with a game-high six assists, drained a 3-pointer with 1:45 remaining to end LSU’s late scoring run.

Jada Butts led TCU with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Raigyne Moncrief led LSU with 22 points, five assists and five steals, with three steals in the fourth quarter.

LSU grabbed an early 12-point by dominating inside, but TCU fought back to take a 31-29 halftime lead by holding the Tigers to 3-of-14 shooting in the second quarter.

The Horned Frogs took their largest lead at 41-33 with 5:19 to go in the third period, but LSU closed the quarter on a 13-2 turn that included five TCU turnovers.

TCU returns home Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to take on its second consecutive SEC opponent in Texas A&M.
