TCU freshman point guard Jaylen Fisher shared Big 12 newcomer of the week honors, selected Monday by league officials, for his efforts in Friday’s season-opening victory over St. Thomas.
Fisher, the highest-rated recruit in TCU men’s basketball history, finished with 13 points, seven assists and four steals in his college debut as the Horned Frogs defeated St. Thomas, 82-64. He connect on 6-of-14 shots (42.9 pct.) from the field in 27 minutes of action. Fisher shared top newcomer honors Monday with Baylor point guard Manu Lecomte, a transfer who scored 13 points and dished out 11 assists in the Bears’ 76-61 victory over Oral Roberts to open the season.
Kansas guard Frank Mason received top players honors for scoring a career-high 30 points in the third-ranked Jayhawks’ 103-99 loss in overtime to No. 11 Indiana in Honolulu.
TCU plays Monday against Alabama State at 8 p.m. in Schollmaier Arena.
